Millbrook Zoo Rededicated as the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo in Honor of Legendary Conservationist
On Saturday, June 7, SustainaFest was proud to attend a special rededication ceremony at Millbrook School, where the campus’s beloved zoo was officially renamed the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo in honor of the late Dr. Thomas E. Lovejoy III - one of the world’s most respected conservation biologists, a proud Millbrook alumnus, and a dear friend of Sustainafest.
The renaming recognizes not only Dr. Lovejoy’s remarkable contributions to global biodiversity and environmental science, including coining the term biodiversity and pioneering work in the Amazon rainforest, but also the foundational role that Millbrook and the original namesake of the zoo, Frank Trevor, played in shaping his career. Lovejoy often credited his formative years at Millbrook and his time learning under Frank Trevor as the spark that ignited his lifelong passion for conservation.
“Renaming the zoo honors the lasting impact of one of Millbrook’s most meaningful teacher-student relationships and underscores the school’s mission to prepare students for lives of purpose through care for the natural world,” the school said in a statement.
For SustainaFest, this moment is especially meaningful. Dr. Lovejoy’s lifelong commitment to protecting biodiversity and mentoring young scientists aligns with our mission to inspire and equip the next generation of environmental changemakers. We are honored to witness his legacy live on through the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo and the students who will follow in his footsteps.
