University of Arizona Launches Lovejoy Center

On January 10, 2024, the University of Arizona Institute for Resilience launched the new Lovejoy Center for Bridging Biodiversity, Conservation Science and Policy. UA is one of the top public universities in the world and home to the Arizona Institute for Resilience which integrates disciplines and forms partnerships to develop innovative and practical solutions to today’s environmental and resilience challenges. As such, UA is the ideal place to sustain Dr. Lovejoy’s work which focused the world’s attention on the Amazon as a mechanism for understanding the complexity, fragility, and potential that biodiverse nature-based solutions present to solve today’s global challenges.

The Lovejoy Center will accelerate scholarship, education, and science policy to further the understanding and protection of biodiverse ecosystems in the Amazon and around the world. In addition, the Center will educate, mentor, and invest in future scientists and leaders, most especially from underserved countries including the eight countries that comprise the Amazonian region.

SustainaFest is extremely excited to partner with the new Center in bringing Dr. Lovejoy’s wisdom and messages of hope to the world. We’ve collaborated on the recently produced short film Back to Camp 41 and look forward to working together on a multi-episode series highlighting stories of hope and perseverance in the effort to build a more sustainable and equitable planet.
