World Premiere of Back to Camp 41

Joined by 350 of our closest friends, our team had the amazing opportunity to screen the world premiere of Back to Camp 41, our touching tribute to the “godfather of biodiversity" as his family and several close colleagues traveled to Dr. Thomas Lovejoy’s world-famous Camp 41, the site of the longest continuously-running Amazonian scientific research station, to spread his ashes. The screening was held at the magnificent McEvoy Auditorium in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC as part of the world’s leading environmental film festival, the DC Environmental Film Festival.

Dr. Lovejoy spent much of his professional life enlightening the world to the importance of the Amazon rainforest. His groundbreaking science was matched only by his incredible communication and networking skills as he traversed the globe sounding the alarm on biodiversity loss and climate change. His network knew no bounds and he worked closely with (and mentored) leading scientists, world leaders, elected officials, business and non-profit leaders, famous personalities, and many more as he sought to draw focus to the most pressing issues of our time. He was, indeed, one of the greatest science communicators the world has ever known and his efforts live on through the work of the many others whom he influenced.

Following the screening, we had the great privilege of participating on a panel with members of the Lovejoy family and close professional colleagues during which time we detailed our plans for an up-coming multi-episode series capturing Tom’s legacy, and that of other scientific giants, and bringing to light the inspiring work of the next generation of science and sustainability leaders. We also had the opportunity to announce the exciting news of recent financial contributions received from the Joy in Blue Foundation and the Lashley Charitable Fund. The response from attendees was truly inspiring and our team is continuing our efforts to bring together all the necessary resources for our ambitious project. Stay tuned to this website to follow along and support our efforts.
